Dutch Oven Inspiration
Fall time meals are some of the most delicious, warm and comforting foods there are, but there are just so many to choose from! Christopher Michel’s latest Country Living article details over eighty plus fall recipes, each of them just as good as the last. Keep reading to find the two handpicked meals we have chosen to highlight, as well as the products you will need to get cooking!
The first dish is a White Wine Coq Au Vin, a twist on the classic french stew that is regularly cooked with red wine. This recipe serves up to eight, but don’t worry if there are leftovers because one of the best things about Coq Au Vin is that it gets better with time, so pop it in the fridge or freezer and enjoy it again the next day! This recipe can be found here, and was created in 2020 by Erika Dugan and Kate Merker.

Let’s take a look at everything you may need from Didriks and Local Root to make this dish a reality! First, the recipe calls for a large dutch oven, or “cocotte'', which can be found in our Cookware section on our website, or in-store. We recommend either the 7 quart Round Cocotte, or the 9 quart Round Cocotte by Staub. These cocottes come in a variety of different sizes and colors; while the latter is preferential, large dutch ovens or cocottes usually hold at least 7-9 quarts which makes these two perfect for the job - you can even serve the stew right out of the cocotte! Staub is a fantastic and well known brand that produces high quality cast iron cookware with built in “self-basting spikes” to provide even heat distribution while cooking.
Second, the recipe also calls for a slotted spoon; while we have many slotted spoons to offer, the Wiggle Slot Wide Serving Spoon by Jonathan’s Spoons is fantastic and will be extremely useful since it is wider than most other spoons - it can be used for cooking and serving. “Jonathan’s Spoons” has a collection of evolving kitchen utensils spanning 30 years, tested in both the woodshop, and the kitchen; this particular spoon is made of wild cherry wood and handcrafted in Pennsylvania. A word to the wise, do not wash this utensil in the dishwasher!
The second recipe is a great way to compliment the main meal. This Parsley-Garlic Bread side, created by Kate Merker in 2020, pairs perfectly, and also is a fantastic way to soak up the last bit of stew in your bowl. This side serves up to four, and is sure to taste amazing! While the recipe does not call for any specific tools, we are going to provide you with a list of recommended kitchen tools to get the job done!

First, we recommend looking at the Eva Solo Drip-Free Oil and Vinegar Carafe for a mess free process; you can even add your own herbs and spices to the carafe to create any variety of oil or vinegar! Eva Solo is an innovative and family-owned Danish brand that has been providing practicality to the kitchen and table for 100 years.
Second, you should most certainly take a look at David Mellor’s Rosewood Serrated Vegetable Knife; this fantastic tool will provide an elevated, yet practical addition to your kitchen.
Lastly, for baking the bread in the oven, we recommend the Nordic Ware Flat Aluminum Cookie Sheet (13x14); while this product is regularly used for baking it’s namesake dessert, we find that it is useful for toasted sandwiches and much more! Plus, this cookie sheet is very easy to store.
We hope that you thoroughly enjoy the recipes and products recommended above! As always, thanks for reading and shopping at Didriks and Local Root.
